“One of the biggest myths that we have to bust is that if you have experienced childhood adversity, there is nothing we can do about it.”

- Dr. Nadine Burke Harris

Safe Haven was inspired by a research study conducted by Dr. Navarro over a three year period. The results from her study indicated that most early childhood professionals do not feel adequately prepared to provide meaningful and equitable learning opportunities for children who have experienced trauma.

Safe Haven provides training, resources, professional development opportunities and tools to early childhood professionals who are truly hoping to impact the lives of the children and families they work with.

About Safe Haven

Hi! I’m Jocelyn. I’m a college professor and have spent over a decade studying the development and the lived experiences of young children.

In my time as an early childhood educator and advocate, I’ve experienced a myriad of teaching environments and created connections with hundreds of children and families of diverse backgrounds.

Through this, one aspect of early childhood development and education remained true for each and every student I encountered: children are intrinsically motivated to learn, but they cannot do so effectively unless they feel safe.

I am passionate about child development and helping others understand the significance of the early years of life. My heart is to ensure that children feel valued, loved, and seen in their early learning experiences.
